One Thing Is Needed

"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41-42

No one is able to please the Lord by just putting out great effort and sacrifice. So often we measure a person's dedication by how busy that person is. But God isn't looking for merely busy people. He desires that we glorify His name. The Lord commanded us to be about our daily business. So perhaps we go into the kitchen, wash the dishes, scrub the pots and pans, and mop the floor. We check our watches and see that we have put in a full day of work. Have we served God?

We review our daily activity. We have done what we ought, but did we take time to read God's Word, the Bible? And did we thank Him for His grace in providing eternal salvation for us in His Son, Jesus? When we do not take time every day to reflect on the goodness of the Lord, we end up working very hard but missing the "one thing needed"-- to live fully to His glory.

Prayer:  Holy Father, forgive us for so often focusing on the immediate tasks at hand and overlooking daily opportunities to grow in Your grace and knowledge in Jesus Christ. Amen
